If you are looking to create a Taobao (淘宝) account at http://www.taobao.com/,then you have come to the right place. Taobao is similar to Ebay or Amazon. You are able to purchase and sell a whole bunch of cool stuff. You don’t need to know any Chinese to follow this guide. Registering for an account on Taobao is fast and easy. When you register, you will also be simultaneously creating an Alibaba account (the East’s version of PayPal). Don’t listen to websites insisting to act as your personal shopping agent. They are just trying to make money. You can follow this guide and create an account yourself.
What You Will Need:
1. A computer
2. Internet access
3. An Asian phone number

I heard that I will need the phone number for confirming the orders? is this true?
Last I checked, you only need to enter your username password to confirm orders. The phone number is just for registration purposes. After that, I don’t think you need it.
I see thank you.
I’m going to register for taobao account is it possible for you to activate it using your phone number? because I don’t have a phone number of the listed countries.
If you don’t want to it’s ok I will manage it somehow.
There is also an e-mail verification feature that you can use instead of a phone number. You probably shouldn’t use someone’s phone number that you don’t know (In the future, if you lose your username/password, a text message can be sent to that phone number to retrieve your lost information). To verify by e-mail, follow the other steps, but just click “您还可以:使用邮箱验证 >>”, when you get to the phone part of the application. It is located underneath where you would enter your phone number at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps.
It still ask for a phone number it looks like there is no choice but to buy a sim card from ebay.
Thanks anyway.
It seems that it is no longer possible to register without a phone Asia.
Can you help me?
Well, one solution is to purchase a sim card from China or you can purchase a Chinese phone number through Skype. Taobao is usually tied to your phone as a security measure. I wouldn’t suggest borrowing a friend’s number just to register as he/she will have access to your private information. Also, you will need a Chinese bank account tied to your Taobao account, which also usually requires a Chinese phone number (depending on your bank).
stay away from this site http://www.taobao.com, it’s full of cheaters and liars. i wanted to buy something and i sent them money but i got nothing. i wrote to the admin of the site but i got no any response. so be adviced!!!
Taobao is similar to Ebay. There are people selling their own product using this online Chinese platform. I don’t think you can blame the site for the actions or abuse of one seller. You need to thoroughly check out the reputation/reliability of that particular seller before making purchases. In addition, there is a chat program called “阿里旺旺” or “Aliwangwang” (wangwang.taobao.com) that allows you to discuss with the seller all of the details about the product before purchasing. With that said, you also need to be careful about what you read. For example, I have found that there are often fake reviews on Taobao (as I have seen many advertisements in Chinese recruiting people to write such reviews). Unless enough complaints are made about a particular seller, there are just too many people for one site to handle each complaint personally. I guess the only thing that can be done is to warn people about a particular seller/product; however, that person could always create a new account and scam another. Best advice: Don’t buy anything from that seller ever again. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
Dear, If i chooes the USA country then the phone number should be still a China phone number right?
Yes, the phone number should be from China and you should be located in China. By clicking “China” on the phone section, you are saying that your phone number is also from that location.
